Waste Removal and Recycling

The need for Waste Recyling in the UK cannot be underestimated. Roughly 170 million tonnes of commercial and domestic waste is produced each year with a large percentage of this waste being sent to landfill. That’s about 170kg of waste for every person living in the UK. Landfill is the only place we are able to send waste that cannot be recycled or re-used but this can have negative consequences for the environment.

Hippo Bag

The Landfill Directive has set targets of reducing the amount of waste going to landfill and the Landfill Tax was introduced in 1996 in an attempt to reduce this. While modern landfills are well managed they can contribute to contaminated ground water in the area, pollute air quality and put the local environment under severe pressure. While sending to landfill cannot be avoided altogether we can help to reduce the amount that is sent by recycling and re-using as much as we can.

Recycling at home

We all have a responsibility and opportunity to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill and we can start by making conscious efforts to regularly recycle paper, glass, plastics and organic waste. Local councils provide great advice and guidance for home recycling best practices, which helps make recycling easier for everyone. There are limitations to what can be recycled and sometimes with the best intentions we are unable to recycle everything at home or in a business.

Our Commitment

As a company we’re serious about our commitment to reducing the amount of waste we send to landfill each year. We are licensed and approved by the Environmental Agency to carry and dispose of commercial and domestic waste.

We firmly believe “One man’s junk is another man’s treasure” and so we’re currently negotiating with local charities throughout London in a bid to repurpose more of the items we clear.

We recycle what we can, and dispose responsibly of the waste that cannot be recycled. We’re working hard to incorporate accurate waste reporting systems into our business so we can continually measure and improve efforts.

Our tipping partner, SITA, provides some useful information about how your garden clearance waste is recycled and repurposed into compost to be reused later on. Your local council also publishes useful guidelines and advice on home recycling and garden waste composting best practices.
